If ever you could affix a color to a season, I think brown is most synonymous with fall. Brown is one of my least favorite colors at this stage of my style evolution, but fall is probably my most favorite season. Since we’re moving into the first real month of fall (Florida is always behind – I was at the pool yesterday), I thought I’d put together a fall fashion picks post, though not following the typical fall palette. And, since I get most of my basics from Target, I’ll skip to the fun stuff.
I’ve not yet tired of the sneaker-boot hybrid. Coach released a lovely, made in Italy version, for a reasonable sub $400, in black, but with hints of fall-appropriate tan. The even more reasonable version is from Converse.
Living in the subtropics always presents a funny ‘fall-winter’ conundrum, for those few days it is truly chilly, and the rest when it’s cold at night and in the morning, but warms up during the day. Floridians don’t need a heavy coat, but more than a sweater is in order. I am mildly obsessed with this Lululemon Cadence 2-in-1 jacket. In black.
Although most guys don’t change out their wallets season-to-season, I love this Neil Barrett speckled card case.
I can’t help but love the leathergoods more than knits and denim, so my second pair of fall lust-worthy shoes…True Religion boots. Surprising but truuue. They look great, have both brown and black, and $350 for Made in Italy? Amazing.
Attractive, quality watches are more and more affordable, so there is no excuse not to wear one. I’ve been seeing Timex around (do I smell a revival?). The brand is sold in many places, including Urban Outfitters, Target, and Nordstrom. There seems to be a style for all tastes…
And although I find gold to be gaudy in 95% of its application, it does work sometimes. This Fossil watch looks, at least on screen, to be quite the nice pop of warm gold tone, without looking cheap. I’ve wanted a bit of gold for a while now, and this is a gentle foray into the precious metal (look).
Continuing with the luxe theme, without breaking the bank, Aldo has some velvet slip-ons (smoking loafers, almost) on sale for $45. Winning.
A wardrobe post wouldn’t be complete without a bag. One of my favorite domestic, local (Orlando) fashion brands is Makr Carry Goods. I have the navy canvas fold-over weekender, and my brother has a cordovan keychain. Good stuff, very hard-wearing. The black looks primed for fall frolicking.
And, for the wildcard. This G-Star aged denim jacket is just right. Tailored enough to look good in any color or fabric, but bringing back the teen staple for another, albeit more European cut go-round. Swoon.
For the invisible fall layer, my favorite common denominator scent is fig. I used to wear Jo Malone Fig & Cassis perfume, and got so many compliments. I just picked up this Côté Bastide essential oil of fig from Oxford Exchange, which is supposed to be used to recharge crystal potpourri. It works just as well directly on the skin.
Now, if anyone is feeling generous, by all means…links will lead you to the easiest way to win my heart. Otherwise, I may pick up a couple of these winners myself this season. Long live the anti-brown fall wardrobe!
