If you’re even close to a fitness-y person, you’ve used a shaker bottle to drink a protein shake, or pre-workout…or just water – and reused it over time. They are made of 3 pieces: bottle, wire ball, and cap.
The bottles and caps have historically been hard plastic, because sports don’t lend themselves to fragile accessories.
Recently I found that all my hard plastic shakers were getting filmy in the dishwasher. And, I have multiple bottles/caps that aren’t always interchangeable. This cap only fits those two bottles, probably a result of dishwasher heat. It’s a BIG OLD MESS.
The idea for a glass shaker bottle came from glass reusable containers, which are the original ‘Tupperware’. They’re seeing a comeback among environmentally- and health-conscious people based on their lower likelihood to degrade, stain, or absorb germs over time.
I went with this model, from Sun’s Tea.
For a reasonable $14, and free shipping with Amazon Prime, how could I not?
The glass definitely comes out cleaner and clearer from the dishwasher. The warping issue with the plastic cap remains, though. I suggest hand-washing all plastic shaker caps, plastic bottle or glass, for longevity.
You’ll also notice an hourglass-shaped wire whisk, designed to catch and mix contents at the corners of the bottle. Neattt.
Aside from mostly identical usability, the experience of holding and using a glass container is superior, IMO. It looks nicer both while stored, and while in use.
Considering the small price differential, I would make the switch, to upgrade even the smallest of elements of my daily life.
