From what I can tell, either you’re a psychic believer, or you aren’t. There aren’t many indifferent on the subject. I recently had a brief debate about the merits of a spiritual medium advisor (aka psychic) vs. those of a balloon artist. Seriously. Do I even need to argue why energy reading capabilities/future predicting is more useful than a pirate ship hat made of balloons? Ah well, to each his own.
To get a truly authentic psychic reading, Some friends and I made the treacherous drive across the Orlando metroplex, an area dominated by the Disney/Universal/SeaWorld army of tourists. Downtown Orlando and its immediate environs are quite nice, in fact…just getting there is a lesson in alert driving and brake hovering.
Past Osceola, Orange, and Seminole Counties you find Volusia County and a charming hamlet called Cassadaga. Quite literally in a corner, the main road turns 90 degrees at Cassadaga, on the road between Lake Helen and…Lake Helen. Not exactly a place you ‘pass through’ by chance. Cassadaga is known for its spiritual, psychic leanings, and the historic Cassadaga Inn is said to host many friendly spirits. Naturally we made a point to stay there, for the full spook factor.
I had my much-anticiapted reading on Saturday morning with Reverend Judy Cooper. Like anywhere, the best are always off the beaten path; Rev. Cooper’s home was a 10 minute walk away from the bustling center of Cassadaga, but well worth the uphill climb.
After a brief, requisite ‘you seem tense’ introduction, we discussed me as a person, my energy and color fields (pink for sensitivity, orange for creativity/power-seeking). We touched on my areas for personal improvement (be less sensitive, more assertive), as well as life events to look forward to (moving???). Judy told me that I had two very strong, very doting grandmothers who were both proud of my life’s choices thus far, minus not always going right for what I want, when I want it. The word ‘spitfire’ was brought up to describe the traits I took from those formative women.
She said I should follow my talent and creativity (she sensed I enjoyed writing). Many of these things were more affirmation than revelation, but useful nonetheless. Judy saw I had a keen intellect and that my quest for knowledge and details (my ‘seeker self’) would reward me in life. Last, we discussed my aversion to relationships and commitment, my need for space and independence. She predicted I would be in a happily committed relationship in 10 years (age 35!), but not before.
Again, not necessarily ground-breaking, but certainly a big heaping bowl of food for thought for the drive back through pavement hell to Tampa. I must say it was one of the most thought-soaked solo drives I’ve ever taken.
Would I do it again? Most certainly. Would I take everything the kind Reverend said to heart? Of course not – but it’s nice to know someone else shared the crazy space in my brain for a little while. If you have a chance to stop in Cassadaga, get a reading, and enjoy an evening of spooky fun at the Inn, I highly suggest it. You know, if that’s your kind of thing.

mixed bag but feel the same way…after all my readings this place is as legit as they come; think the reading is only as clear as to how open you are to the experience.
Went there years ago and had a great experience . . . thought provoking to say the least.
Finally got a chance to read this! Interesting. I completely believe in this stuff and would love to go sometime. I can imagine that drive back home was a thought-filled one.
How was your stay at the Inn? Any spiritual activity?
Everyone should try it at least once – and be open to the experience. I think being a hostile non-believer makes it harder to enjoy the vibe 🙂 And in the Cassadaga Inn – no spirit sensing for me. It was creepy but just because it’s so old!
[…] on my interest here, in this space, do I devote myself to writing? Reverend Judy Cooper, of Cassadaga fame, told me I should delve more into it as a creative outlet. Others have said the same, but I’m […]
