It wasn’t looking great three days ago. Only two people had purchased tickets on Eventbrite for The Courtship. That is, despite hand-mailed invitations, a Facebook event, myriad tweets, and regular status updates in this space.
In part, we couldn’t blame anyone. Thanksgiving was just last weekend, and most already feel holiday exhausted, even with most of December still to come.
We (The Pink Petticoat, London Philips, Make-A-Wish Central & Northern Florida, & Remarqed) soldiered on and crossed our fingers for the best.
Though what unfolded Thursday night wasn’t our original conception (flashy, exclusive), it was lovely.
Nice, locally-supportive people who like to shop came out, and hung out. Some of Lesley’s best customers could be seen toting her signature pink shopping bags. We enjoyed lamb, chicken, and greek salad from Little Greek South Tampa catering.
About 20 tickets were sold at the last minute. Combined with 15% of all sales going toward Make-A-Wish, hopefully the event equalled a moderate windfall for the charitable organization. That was the point, after all.
Two hired models wore looks from The Pink Petticoat. They were leggy runway figures right out of Miami or New York. Friendly too, though we had to slap their hands when they sidled up to the hummus.
Just kidding!
Crashing on Lesley’s white shag-covered couch at the end of the night was just an added bonus.
Overall, a festive, feel-good holiday event.
