Thank god for friends with more ideas for socializing than drinking, bars, pools, and the like. I was invited to a Birthday Fish Fry and couldn’t resist partaking in decidedly un-gay activities like fried foods, jungle juice, and easy cheese appetizers!
Needless to say, we didn’t do it quite like they do on the bayou. Birthday boy Dustin’s friend Kendall hosted at his gorgeous, new, HUGE house. We fried outside near the beer pong table, but spent most of the evening inside, drinking, eating country treats like ants-on-a-log (peanut butter, raisins, and celery!), and eventually stuffing ourselves with fried mullet, baked beans, and cheese grits (more like polenta…nice try!). Dessert was the bougiest part: chocolate mousse cake made by Mark of Artisan Crafted Edibles (see right sidebar).
Still, though, the event was a refreshing change from the status quo. Great people, great food, and a nice mix of gay AND straight. A good time had by all.
