I don’t drink soda. Haven’t in quite some time. And if I did, it would be organic, all natural, something like that. Real sugar > processed, fake, imitation sugar and/or chemicals that likely congeal in your midsection (see all of rural America). So what is a boy to do?
I drink a lot of water, moderated with tea, coffee, and the occasional gin/soda or tequila/soda. As you could imagine, that limited menu gets tired pretty fast…so I’ve been happily exploring the range of flavored waters made with various ‘essences’ – meaning they’re calorie and sugar free without also containing scary additives or flavorings made in a lab.
One of my favorites so far is metromint. Its makers pair a number of flavors with mint through reverse osmosis to achieve a product that is refreshing (mint!), delicious, and different. I’ve tried the chocolate mint, orange mint, and lemon mint. Each had an authentic taste that could only come from a meticulous flavoring process and a thorough tasting of what works and what doesn’t.
That kind of attention to detail is what makes paying a little more worthwhile.
So far I’ve found metromint at the area health food stores I frequent, as well as a favorite take-out of mine – FitLife Foods in South Tampa. If you’re a watertarian like me and you want to mix it up, I give metromint a hearty thumbs up. There are also lots of other varieties and brands to taste test, so stay tuned!
